AstraZeneca is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Science and Enabling Units IT Solution Delivery Team to lead the expansion of our team and entrance into our entrance Guadalajara office. This role requires a leader with deep technical skills, that codes regularly and capble of leading and inspiriting others. We’ll rely on you to bring your technical acumen to help the team continue to deliver world class solutions for both our employees and our external constituents such as patients and doctors.

In this role you will be part of our global development team which is migrating to as close as we can to a true DevOps operating model. You will be a factor in that transition. Your team will be new, and you will help us select almost every member of the team. Each person on your team will be part of a specific DevOps team from which they will get their day to day work. Your accountabilities along being the team’s local manager will be to continue leading our recruiting efforts, coach and mentor, assist with resource planning, and getting your hands dirty designing, problem solving and coding with your team. Your accountability when it comes to hiring will be to ensure that we are hiring the best people we can and further improving their skills once they join. Your top priority on day one will be to design a recruiting plan around staffing our Guadalajara office with 24-30 team members over the next 12 months.
Beyond the local line management accountabilities, this role will take on Platform Ownership accountabilities. This means that you will be expected to take on the continuous delivery of one or more of our platforms. With these expanded accountabilities, you will need to be driving the team to make the best decisions related to architecture and design of the platform, partnering directly with the business on platform roadmap and prioritization, and communicating regularly with both IT and Business leadership. You will also need to be able to coach and mentor the future leaders of our team in Guadalajara.
We consider individuals in this role to be great Software Engineers and even greater leaders. This means that you will need to gain the respect of your people through your common love of coding and your ability to be part of the solution. You will also need to inspire them to continuously improve both themselves, their teammates, and the products are responsible for. Don’t be afraid to hire someone who is “better than you”.
Our Engineering Managers are capable of working in multiple spaces and learning new technology is part of that. Your team will consist of both traditional Software Engineers and Platform Engineers who take a configuration-based approach. However, you must have deep technical skills and an extensive history of writing code. It is not required that you have skills in all of these technologies, however these are some of the technologies that we use:

— Activiti / Camunda / Flowable
— AWS - cloud hosting and cloud orchestration
— MongoDB / Couchbase / Other NoSQL technologies
— Jira / Confluence / Git
— Apache PiG
— .NET Development
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Information Science, or equivalent degree is preferred but not required. We will hire self-taught engineers without a formal education given that you have evidence of rich history of software engineering.
