Who we are looking for?
This position requires data-driven decision making at Placeit through timely delivery of analysis and recommendations surrounding business initiatives and digital assets. Someone who has overall 5-8 years of experience with Ecommerce company’s dealing data mining, study and forecasting will be value added.
What would I work on specifically?
Purpose: Record site (placeit.net) activity, analyze that activity, enable non-data-team members to do further drill down and provide a business narrative after analysis for important occurrences.
Now let’s break down each part a bit:
Record Site Activity
Ask for events that get recorded in the system with data for particular actions (for example, a user bookmaking a template)
·Map the various events and make sure they come with all the right information
Make sure that the events actually end up in the right systems
Checks for data integrity on all key events
Systems you’d be using o Segment.com
We record our events via JS. You don’t have to write the code for them. You would just instruct the definition and the variables you’d like the event to include.
Runs queries, builds dashboards and visualizations that help make it easier to understand the data
Creates alerts for surface level analysis
Systems you’d be using
Google Analytics (most common areas listed below). We try our hardest to first make our analytics in GA since it has more flexibility for drilldown by default.
A strong understanding of how GA uses primary and secondary dimensions along with custom dimensions
Segments (creation and comparison)
Event flow analysis
Google Data Studio
Made for simpler reports that we can’t do in GA o Tableau
These are for more complex dashboards that we can’t do in the other tools.
o Google Big Query
For running SQL and connecting to Tableau / Google Data Studio.
Enabling Other Teams
Create reports and dashboards in such a way that other team members can do further drilldowns without having to ask for help.
The concept here is to not make rigid reports that only look at the data in one singular way.

Trying to understand content usage and content $ value Product
Trying to understand feature and user experience.
Trying to understand commercial value of certain users.
Provide Commercial Narrative
Writing a narrative that helps explain to everyone what is happening. This narrative should be easy to follow and not have any logic gaps in it. It should also provide all the various links for anyone to further dig down and verify this analysis.
What general skills do I need to perform well in this position?
Experience working with an ecommerce company for at least 3 years in a senior position.
One has been responsible for writing the business narrative to explain data in a thorough manner in previous assignments
3+ years of experience with statistical analysis, applying predictive modeling.
3+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), and statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab).
Experience with statistical modeling.
Deep understanding and use of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
Understanding of various digital marketing channels and corresponding KPI’s (SEO, SEM).
In-depth knowledge of keyword research and competitor analysis.
Expert in with Relational Databases Systems, Excel, and SQL.
Is very familiar and comfortable with the scientific method
Not required but preferred -> programing language knowledge (Python, R, and SAS).
One has managed a team of 3 or more that had data analysis duties for a period of 2 year or more
Understands how to set goals
Understands how to effectively communicate and delegate as a manager
Understands how to prioritize activities for her/his team
What additional skills and Knowledge would be very useful for this position?
Excellent communication skills -written and spoken English
Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, statistics, business, finance, marketing, IT would be add value
Good understanding of direct / digital marketing techniques and analytics
Experience using customer management and customer retention techniques
Ability to work part of the team and independently
Advanced use of Google Analytics 360 for an eCommerce Business (use of Segments, Custom Dimensions, enhanced eCom dimensions and metrics, Custom Reports);
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with ability to balance competing priorities;
Autonomy and a strong sense of responsibility.
Research new techniques and best practices within the industry.
Validate models and algorithmic techniques

How’s the work/life balance there?
Most engineers are here between 10am to 6pm although some come earlier and leave a bit earlier. Some days they stay later and some days they leave earlier.
We generally keep an “adult policy” over these things. The idea is that you’re responsible and we’re not going to babysit you.
We don’t really focus on the hours you spend in the office. Our focus is mostly on how efficient you are.
We’re flexible for people that want to start work earlier and leave earlier as well.
