Linux System Admin with DevOps

The position of System Admin with DevOps is a Systems Integration role. It requires the ability to successfully coordinate between the different Technology teams in building and supporting (Operations) the Prod Environments. It requires the ability to think at an End-to-End System Architecture and Design level

The admin tasks consists of key areas: Implement, Perform, Provide Technical Support, Recommend Support, Create Documentation. The admin must be able to coordinate between multiple technology teams to:

·        Implement Infrastructure Administrators build and install computer infrastructure, which encompasses hardware, servers, and virtual machines,

Perform Maintenance Software must go through regular maintenance, and it’s up to administrators to monitor client systems daily and pinpoint problem areas. They proactively design and install upgrades, releases, and application patches. On a less frequent basis, they also update drivers, servers, and firmware with newer technology.

·        Provide Technical Support In order to provide technical support to clients at all times, administrators may remain on call during irregular hours. They must respond promptly to issues reported by clients, conducting root cause analysis and going through various testing scenarios for thorough resolution.

·        Recommend Solutions Administrators participate heavily in planning client infrastructures. This entails gathering system data, researching possible solutions, developing and presenting their design ideas, and thoughtfully evaluating suggestions from others. In addition, they evaluate industry trends and assist in implementing standards and best practices.

·        Create Documentation Those in this role must create and maintain documentation for all system-related processes and procedures that they’re in charge of, including project requirements, changes and upgrades, implementation plans, and support tickets. Another paperwork-heavy task is creating summary reports for clients or internal management.


The admin must be able to listen to the design and development teams to be able to organize and coordinate between those groups to resolve defects as the come up throughout the development phase. This involves activities such as conducting coordination meetings, providing weekly status to the project for Build activities, and supporting Project costing and capacity planning.

The admin will work closely with the different teams to validate system operability and performance. The VM admin also works to coordinate and resolve schedule conflicts and collisions of different projects using the same test infrastructure.


  • Provide support for Unix-Linux Server Infrastructure.
  • Assisting on Linux servers for CPU utilization, memory utilization & disk utilization for the performance.
  • Monitor team queue and email distributions lists for any problems being reported
  • Implement changes to platforms as per process standards.
  • Providing functional, operational & administrative support within defined SLA.
  • Creating and implementing user accounts and setting up password policies.
  • Ensuring file security using file permissions and ACLs
  • Deploying remote administration servers like SSH Servers and reviewing OS Level logs and troubleshooting issues.
  • Automating administration tasks using bash scripting.
  • Imparting training to end-users in the post-implementation phase
  • Conducting periodic reviews with the customer and analyze calls and their trends to take proactive measures to reduce knowledge-based calls.
  • Suggesting improvements in the operations and processes to make the system foolproof.
  • Outage Report Generation.
  • Aid in executing Migration/Consolidation of the server environments.
  • Providing RCA for severity 1 or production affecting issues.
  • Managing activities relating to system upgrades, migration, patching, packages, monitoring, backup and recovery operations, level 2 support and troubleshooting of clients’ servers based on Linux/Solaris system.
  • Suggesting improvements in the operations and processes to make the system foolproof.
  • Coordinating with the networking support team; servicing and resolving issues and complaints relating to Internet / Network performance.

  • Patch Management and administration of Solaris servers.
  • Response to Helpdesk queries and Resolution of Trouble tickets as per defined SLA’s.
  • UNIX Activities (Monitoring CPU usage, disk space load average Memory etc.).
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
